Nourished by
the Sea

I have always been drawn to the coastal waters of Puget Sound, Washington, a place that has shaped both my life and my art. Some of my earliest and most cherished memories come from swimming underwater with my eyes open, feeling the movement of the tide, and rowing my grandfather’s boat on Hood Canal.

Over time, this deep connection with the water evolved into a passion for capturing its essence, first through photography and later through painting. I became fascinated by the way even the smallest wave holds layers of color, texture, and motion, each one telling its own story silently.

My husband, BB, and I built our life in Gig Harbor, where we raised our family and continue to call home. We are fortunate that our loved ones remain close, keeping our roots firmly planted in this beautiful coastal community.

Academically, my journey began with a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Washington, Seattle, followed by foundational art studies at Tacoma Community College and the School of Visual Concepts in Seattle. I am an active member of the Peninsula Art League and Seattle Artists’ Trust, as well as a Charter Member of the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C.

"Judy Buskirk is artistically bilingual. She speaks fluid design and color. While I glance at other paintings, I climb into her creations. There is always something new to explore in her work. The deeper I gaze, the more I discover, about her AND myself.”

"In my home, I have 2 pieces of art by Judy. One, a delicate painting of a shell with a mollusk on it with subtle hues and definite lines, reminds me of an old photo. The other…a patch of roses…pinks, peach, red defining lines. Touches of pale green. Wonderful ! Both!"

"The painting is the perfect complement to my ocean beach home.  It hangs in the one room without an ocean view, yet just looking at the painting, fills the room with the sounds and smells of the wild surf just steps from my door."

"The first time I saw this beautiful piece it spoke to me.  My happy place is playing near the river in the Hoh Rainforest and this piece captured my heart, with the colors of the forest all around me, like nature’s hug."
